How to Motivate Your Employees and Maximize Efficiency
If you are running a business, you will quite well recognize the importance of motivated employees to run your enterprise. When employees are motivated, they work with better enthusiasm and thus they become more productive. This is good news for any business.
Motivating your employees to maximize efficiency is not as difficult as it sounds. At the end of it, we are dealing with people and whether they are employees or not, there are specific behavioral patterns that can be used to motivate people. Here we shall look at a few of the most effective ones.
Reward Your Best Employees
If you expect your employees to stick their necks out and do something more for the company than what their job entails, then you have to make sure they get compensated something more than their pay packet too. This is where the question of a reward comes into the picture. Single out highly motivated workers in your establishment and give them rewards. Basically, what you are doing is you are bringing their achievements into prominence and that acts as an inspiration for your other employees to work better as well.
Use the Personal Approach
Wherever you can, try to be personal with your employees, but within limits. You don’t need to slap their backs at every opportunity and address them by their first names so much that it becomes invasive, but probably you could do all of this within a particular limit. One way to do that is to give them a word of personal appreciation for a job well done. Actually, such words are more honored by employees looking for motivation than monetary rewards. Cash bonuses are remembered only till they are spent; but appreciative words linger on for much longer in your employees’ memories.
Make a Proper Initial Plan
When your intention is to motivate your employees and maximize their efficiency, it becomes highly important for you to have a properly set plan of action. When you are announcing something new and you expect your employees will perform well, it becomes your responsibility to give them a clear-cut idea of what is expected. Divide your tasks according to the proficiencies of your employees. Don’t burden them with things they cannot do. Giving people jobs they can do well is to ensure you get a good product at the end of it all.
Involve Yourself
Some employers have the obnoxious habit of distancing themselves from the assignments they give to their employees. This distance could be lethal, especially when you are giving a new task to your employees. It won’t do for you to be just there to listen to their reports when they have presumably done what you have set them to do. The better approach is to keep your doors open for suggestions and feedback and give suggestions yourself and keep yourself appraised of everything that’s going on with the assignments that your employees are handling.
