5-Step Guide: How Anyone Can Start Building An Online Business Today

If you are new to making money on the Internet, you might find the following steps useful to start with.

Although there are several other ways as well, I personally find these easier for beginners.

1) Build A Tribe

This is the number 1 tip that almost all successful Internet Marketers (IM) will give you. “The money is in the list”, is the mantra in the IM world. The truth is, anyone can make money online, at will, just by having a targeted list of followers.

To start building a tribe, you have to first sign up for an autoresponder. Check out Aweber, Mailchimp, GetResponse etc.

An autoresponder will help you manage your list of subscribers, allow you to segment them according to different countries or interests (based on information of where and how you got them to sign up to your list) and help you automatically send out e-mails.

You can then put up a sequence of e-mails to be sent to them. These e-mails will be automatically sent at specific intervals that you can decide on starting from the time they sign up to your list.

Ideally, the e-mails should be a good mix of highly valuable content plus a couple of promotional e-mails. Your promotions can also be embedded within your free content.

The purpose here is to get a list of subscribers who might be interested in your paid products or services as well.

To keep these subscribers engaged and willing to open and read the e-mails you send, you got to learn a bit about subject lines that trigger more open rates and how to write e-mails that people want to read.

2) Create A Landing Page & Drive Traffic To It

Ok, now that you have already gotten an autoresponder to store and manage your list of subscribers, you might be wondering how am I going to start getting subscribers.

You can do this by building a simple landing page.

Since the main purpose of your landing page is to get people to sign up to your list, it should not have any distractions such as links to other parts of the website.

All you need to have on the landing page are:

  • A picture of your “lead magnet”, an attention grabbing headline,
  • 3 to 5 points describing the benefits of your “lead magnet”,
  • A form for them to submit their name and e-mail address, as well as
  • An instruction for them to sign up to your mailing list in order to get their hands on your “lead magnet”.

A “lead magnet” is essentially just something of value to your target market that you want to give away for free in order to capture their e-mail addresses.

It can be a free webinar, an e-book, a report, a video course, or even a 1-to-1 consultation.

Once you have done up your landing page with the form (you can plug this in from your autoresponder), you are now ready to drive traffic to it.

The easiest way to do this is by running Facebook advertisements to promote your landing page with the free stuff they can get in exchange for their e-mail address.

3) Provide Amazing Content For Free

The fastest way to capture a place in the hearts of your followers is to show an interest in them and give them highly valuable free content that they know they have to pay for to get elsewhere.

When you make yourself or your brand known for its amazing free content, you will start having raving fans who will keep coming back for more.

Eventually you will even be able to activate feelings of reciprocity that will make them want to pay you for some stuff in the near future.

4) Create An Information Product

Have you ever purchased an information product before?

It is usually a combination of e-books, videos, audios etc.

Take a look at the ClickBank Marketplace. Those are some examples of information products.

If you have knowledge on a particular topic, you can also create an information product and put it up for sale on ClickBank or JVZoo etc. These are websites where vendors put up their products and affiliates can help to promote these products and earn a commission out of every sale.

That brings me to the topic of affiliate marketing.

5) Promote Other People’s Products (Affiliate Marketing)

If you do not have your own products, you can also promote other people’s products and earn a commission.

Clickbank and JVzoo are 2 such sites, which help affiliates earn commissions on every sale.

Affiliate marketing is so much easier when you already have a loyal following or subscriber base (i.e. your tribe).

Since your tribe has already warmed up to you and loves reading your content, they would naturally know, like and trust you.

This is the best time to promote them a useful product that fills their needs.

Before you promote any product, make sure you have tried it yourself and can attest to its quality and usefulness.

When you yourself love the product, you can also write better reviews and share naturally from your heart.

This would make your subscribers more inclined to buy what you recommend and you can also pocket some decent commissions.
